Judging And Criticism
Question:
Judging - What is the difference between judging and criticizing? Do you think people confuse the two? Why? Which do you think is worse, judging or destructive criticism? Why?

Judging and criticizing may look similar, but they are not the same. Judging often comes from forming a firm opinion about someone’s actions or character, even when you do not fully understand their situation, the reason for action or their story.
While,
Criticizing, especially when it is constructive, can be about pointing out a behavior or choice without attacking the person behind it. Judging usually feels heavier because it labels a person, while criticism focuses more on what they did.
People do confuse the two a lot because both involve speaking about someone else’s actions. Many do not know how to separate an honest observation from a personal verdict. For example, when a friend arrives late, saying “You are always irresponsible” is judging, but saying “You coming late delayed the meeting and made the rest of us look stupid" is criticism. Both sentences sound like complaints, so people mix them up without noticing the difference.
I think destructive criticism is worse because it breaks confidence and makes a person feel small. It removes the chance for growth because its aim is not to help but to hurt. Judging can be painful too, but destructive criticism goes further by attacking with words that sink into a person’s mind. Another common example is in a workplace where someone makes a mistake. Saying “You messed this up, but try doing it this way next time” is criticism meant to guide. Saying “You are not good at this job” is destructive because it tears down instead of correcting and somebody like me permit me to say I'm so done with that job.🥴
Both judging and destructive criticism affect people emotionally, but destructive criticism carries a sharper edge that can weaken self-esteem and discourage improvement.
I try as much as possible not to judge people but I honestly can't say same about criticizing. But as much as I don't like I try not to dish out.
