Climbing Trees & Chopping Logs

I promised myself I was only going to post once a week, but there are so many amazing things to document in the garden. And I've really expanded my operation lately, so there is never ending work. In my #cannabis garden there is not much space. There are two large Juniper Trees that I planted. Today, I started chopping down low hanging branches and nailing 2x4s onto the trunk. Climbing trees is always exciting and the view is nice: But, mostly I need to remove some of the shade.

I probably shouldn't have dug into the tree, but it's not big/flat enough and the piece of 2x4 kept rocking back and forth. Honestly, I should probably just get rid of these trees, but I don't have the heart. So I'm going to climb them and hack off the low branches etc. From my experience with trees, anything that hurts them just makes them stronger. The 2x4 will probably grow into the tree and the lower branches being sawed off will just help the Juniper Trees grow healthier.
Speaking of trees, I'm going to break down the old pine logs that were holding up my greenhouse. The homemade greenhouse just wasn't working anymore, I'm building a simple hoop-house. The soil in my garden is bare and dry. It needs more compost and could certainly use some wood hummus! I used an old hatchet and broke apart the log into pine chips. This is the outside garden area on the lawn where the sprinklers will automatically water every night. Should grow some nice #mycelium.

My first post on Hive was about overseeding Quinoa seeds. And my how they have grown! Time to transplant the Quinoa. They must be 12" apart from each other. I always transplant in the evening and flood both spots with water beforehand. Quinoa is a grain: With small bead-like spheres that are like a highly nutritious pasta. Quinoa comes in various colors. This is the white variety. Speaking of variety, a few of the Quinoa plants have a nice light purple hue that looks pink in the sunset.

This one cannabis plant is looking very healthy! I'm really hoping for a female! You can see how the horizontal fencing works at this point. You just keep re-tucking the top of the plant into the metal rows in the chicken fence. Speaking of tops: I need to top the plant soon. Otherwise , it'll just grow one big nug on top and won't spread out as much. Most growers top their cannabis. I try to top the cannabis plants at least twice after every fifth node. This plant will get huge and really spread out!

The updates will continue, especially for the cannabis plants, but including the corn, beans, lettuce, onions, celery etc. The weather is starting to heat up, so expect the plants to really start to grow! I'm not going to say exactly where I live, but it's a nice, long and hot summer. Stay tuned for more adventures.
