August Garden Update

Feast your eyes upon my girth. In all seriousness, I've been having a lot of fun with this plant. I'm experimenting with letting the plants grow al naturale without topping or doing any type of stress training. I'm very satisfied with the results. Of course, genetics are a factor. You would have to clone the same plant many times and then do a large side by side: But, not topping or stress training seems better. I also did a last minute fish fertilizer feeding and the usual Epsom Salt.

Growing corn for the first time has been ... interesting.
When I drive through the poor neighborhoods around here, I always see them growing corn in side yards next to broken down cars. I think I prejudiciously assumed that growing corn was easy. First of all, corn takes a ton of nitrogen, which I found out from research, but still underestimated. I should have looked up the exact amount for corn specifically because my crops are CLEARLY malnourished and probably didn't get watered enough either. And the corn needed to be planted WAY earlier.

I planted 3 types of ornamental corn. One blue variety that is actually red, glass corn and another type that is escaping me. Below is a photograph to show the mutation/underdeveloped structure of the corn husks. Below that is a picture of the red corn, which is doing pretty well, at least this one plant seems to be growing normally. The plants are growing well enough that I should be able to plant them again next year: And hopefully do a better job with growing them.

The quinoa I've been growing is underwatered and not looking great. It seems savable though ... I just have to get back into the swing of watering everyday. I bought a hose system recently: Watering all the different garden areas I have is too much of a time crunch. I'm going to only grow plants along the hose line, basing everything around this new system. Below is the Quinoa plant and after watering the Quinoa I set up the new hose system. The new irrigation system has to soak in the sunlight for an hour before usage. I chose a rubber hose to try and keep the amount of strange plastics in my food to a minimum. Today, I pulled a ton of weeds like morning glory. Below is the type of hoes I like to use. Short, fat and extra sharp. Tune in next month, because I will made a huge harvest post around the end of September/ early October. This is my biggest cannabis plant I've ever grown! I should get a nice harvest so stay tuned!
