Early May
manure
I asked a friend for his trailer to pick up horse manure.
Last year, I traded some garlic and a pumkin for the permission to pick up said manure.
Last week, I finally got it all done.
shroom
80% sure this is the magic kind of mushroom.
As it goes with mushrooms: 80% might as well mean 0%.
Worth a picture, though.
pile of poop
This pile of poop will secure next year's potato harvest. And some.
Chippy
I finally got the chipper back running.
Only took like a month.
What I've learned:
- Don't ever buy a cheap chipper from China. Especially not second-hand.
The clutch, the belt... even the bearings are all proprietary.
I could get a new belt for 8€, if it was the standard A x 13mm belt. But it is 12mm for no reason, other than obsolescence.
The company does not even exist anymore.
Anyways, I fixed it - hope the clutch does not burn out quickly...
uninvited guests
I've always had trouble with rabbits.
This year, a deer must have got into the garden to chew the bark off of my newly planted berry shrubs. Made me angry.
fix
I hope I found the spot it used to get through the hedge.
I drove 2 sticks in and hope that blocks its way.
random updates
raspberry
Raspberry patch is looking nice.
Notice all those woodchips? I made those. With my machine.
grapevine
This is the first time, ever, I had a system when pruning this thing.
It looks good for now - I hope the mildew does not get to it again.
voluntary garlic
In another post, I wrote about some voluntary garlic in the spot, where I had garlic last year.
looking good
There are some nice bulbs forming now.
Still more than a month before harvest - looks very promising
regular garlic
This is the garlic, I planted last October.
I am a bit behind on the weeding, but it was so dry it made it near impossible.
Sweet woodruff
For some reason this woodruff came back.
Maybe that's a german thing, but we use it to flavour stuff.
It was gone for years, but for some reason popped up again.
I am very pleased with that.
finally: rain
After April was extremely dry, we finally had some rain.
I was worried about my harvest and nature in general.
This rain was such a relief.
'Ist der Mai kühl und nass, füllt’s dem Bauern Scheun’ und Fass.'
German farmer proverb.
Basically: If there's rain in may - good harvest.
happy plants
Look at that vigour:
more rain
I have the day off, but it's raining.
I am not complaining, but I can't do much in the garden today.
At least, I finally had the time to make a post.
