A misguided tour of a mannequin graveyard

I realised recently I haven't posted here in a while. And maybe it's about time I did. To kick things off again, this is a post dedicated to a recent trip around a mannequin graveyard in Lincolnshire.

The graveyard isn't really a graveyard; it's a former RAF base in Lincolnshire, operational during WW2. There are many such sites throughout England, mostly repurposed or long since disappeared. On this site are around 20,000 mannequins which have been donated from various sources with the intention of recycling or being sold on. The graveyard also makes a great place for photographers like me.

On the 2nd Saturday of each month, mannikin.com opens the gates to everyone with £5 in cash.

This is a sample selection of what I captured in around 90 minutes:

Rule Brittania, Britannia wAIves the rules

Some of the mannequins are in various states of decay and in this dark corner, I spotted this one looking down and forlorn, With a little AI enhancement, this reminded me what it feels like as an Englishman just now; downtrodden, led by political idiots and a narcissistic president ruining the price of oil.

I, Mannequin

The arrangement of rows of the same type of mannequin reminded me of the movie, I, Robot.

I am pretty sure one of them winked at me!

It's quite a freaky place to visit and I found myself more than once doing a double take to make sure I was looking at a real person and not a mannequin!

Many hands make light work

These hands and arms were arranged in such a way as to be thought provoking. Somewhat like the pictures I've seen showing the aftermath of the holocaust.

It's written all over your face

I managed to get real close to some of the decorated dummies.

Hopelessly devoted

These two were stacked against each other in a jumble with others. They looked very much together.

one among many

This trip gave me a chance to practice shallow depth of field even shooting with an f4 lens.

All that glitters is not gold

I spotted a group of female mannequins where it looks like someone made quite an effort to add make up ( Paint? ) to the heads.

About me:

I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in landscape, urbex and artistic model photography. I like to collaborate with other photographers and occasionally shoot outside my comfort zone.

Lightpainting, afterdark, urbex and model photography not necessarily in that order!
