It is all a learning process - Dendrobium dickasonii

This orchid is a history.
I bought it some years because I really wanted it. And it was the time when I didn't think of the climate and what type of orchids would feel ok in the high temperatures I get. Because of that I managed to kill quite a few very nice (and not the cheapest) plants.

Dendrobium dickasonii

This is a specie orchid, which means it can be found growing wild in its natural environment somewhere in Myanmar, India or Thailand. It grows in higher altitudes where it gets high humidity, bright light, but shaded by other plants and not too high temperatures.

I got mine as a rather small plant with just two canes. It already had flower buds on and it bloomed as you can see. But after that it was just getting worse and worse. Not the best plant condition from the start just added up to the high temperature I get here and I had to say goodbye.

If you have a green house or any space where you can control the environment (temperature, humidity), you can get any orchid you wish.
But if like me, you do not have one and grow orchids at home and want them to be a part of your space, then you have to pick the ones that will want to share that space with you.

And knowing that now, I would have never gotten this one. Or a few others that also died because of the same reason.
It is too hot and too dry for them here in summer.

On a side note. Those photos were taken few years ago (I completely forgot I had photos of this plant) and I you can see that the black background is not as good as what I normally have now. I was trying to achieve it with some black plastic matt that I placed behind the plant. And even some editing didn't give me the effect I wanted, though I admit I am not a master editor.
Took me some time to learn how to work with light and shadows. And no more scruffy black background :)
