Windy Lakeside

Nature drives (bad translations from
a finnish word we use for this) are an essential part of life when I’m visiting homehome. Dad says ”get in the car, there is ____ to see”, and you must say yes because it always pays off.

This time it was a very windy day and as dad was driving home from work he saw big waves on the lake and wanted us to see them too. It’s rare to see waves this big on a lake here so while it probably doesn’t look like anything to people who live seaside, it’s cool for us.

There is this ”hidden” beach we like to visit and the strong wind from north-east came straigh to it, bringing waves high up on the beach. The water had been even higher at some point in the day because we could see the stones of the fireplace were wet. Normally the waterline in the summer is about 5 metres from the end of that bench that is now almost stolen by the waves.

Waves hitting the shore all day long had eroded it and revealed lots of tree roots that have been basically peeled by the sand and water.

These pictures were taken on 10th of May, so you can imagine how late the spring is here this year. The temps were around 5°C but felt even colder with the wind. No bikinis on this beach.

One last picture from a different spot along the shoreline. All the little ice pieces have gathered into this spot and the shape of the shore along with the waves creates whirl that shapes the ice slush into round formations. I couldn’t get a proper shot of the shapes as I would have needed a higher spot and have a long lens with me.
