Fall Tree in Acrylics

Notice that autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature.

Friedrich Nietzsche

I'm more of a Spring person because Autumn makes me restless. It's mainly because most of the tough days I have seen in life came in Autumn so I don't know how and when I started dreading those chilly and quiet days.

With each passing year, I try to embrace this time of the year and hope for it to be better than it had been in the past.

It's #creative-sunday and middle of October. It would have been unfair if I hadn't chosen Fall for today's theme.

Today's art is beautiful yet extremely simple. A complete art-noob can also create it. In my opinion, art doesn't has to be complicated but creative.

I made a simple fall tree which has turned all yellowish and is shedding as well. Under the tree, there's a sign board indicating "woods" which looks spooky to me.

So let's see how I created this simple art.

Process

I painted the whole paper Black with a flat brush. I will tell the reason of choosing black later.

Then I cleaned the brush and used Burnt Umber shade to make sketch of tree's trunk and branches.

I took the same shade and painted the tree. Refined the branches and base as well.

Now it's time to move towards the leaves. Since I chose the fall theme, so I'm not going to use the green color. Instead I am going to use warm shades of yellow which will pop on black background.

Another twist is that I'm not going to use a paint brush to draw leaves. I will be using q-tips instead.

I squeezed out three different kinds of Yellow. Held q-tips together and dabbed in all three shades. Then I dabbed along the branches of tree. You can see the result above.

When the branches were all filled, I dabbed with the same motion under the tree to give an effect of fallen leaves.

Under the tree I added a sign board with same burnt umber shade and wrote "WOODS" on it with a thin round brush of size 2.

And it's all done. How simple was that?
