Hello everyone 🥰
I'm Emyekanem and im excited to participate in Week 205 open mic. The song I have chosen for the week's theme, 'Asian Culture', is "Edelweiss". This is one of the songs featured in the movie, The Sound of Music. I decided to sing two voice parts for the song cause i feel my songs aren't always complete with a touch of harmony😊. You'll be wondering why I have to choose this particular song and I know that you will also be wondering if this song can be connected with the theme of the week. I have my reasons for choosing this song, though the lyrics and song doesn't directly refer to Asian culture.
However, it can be connected with Asian culture through broader themes of music, nature, and cultural exchange. I'll explain that. But first let's look at the meaning of "Edelweiss".
Edelweiss" is a flower that grows in the Alps, particularly in Austria, Switzerland, and some parts of Germany. The name "Edelweiss" comes from the German words "edel", meaning noble and "weib" meaning white. Therefore in English, it is translated as "Noble White".
Now, the Edelweiss flower, which the song is named after, symbolizes beauty and resilience. Similarly, the Asian cultures also have a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and often use natural symbols in art and poetry.
Also, as we all know that music is a universal language with themes of love, longing, and beauty, which resonate across different cultures. Asian culture is not an exception.
Furthermore, I'll also add that the movie, The Sound of Music,has gained worldwide popularity, including in Asian countries, where it has been widely viewed and appreciated.
Therefore, I hope you also get to watch the movie and listen to the songs featured in it, including, Edelweiss. I'm sure you'll enjoy and appreciate it too.
