ɪɴ ᴀ ᴄʜᴀᴏᴛɪᴄ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ, ɪs ᴄʜɪʟᴅʙᴇᴀʀɪɴɢ ɴᴇᴄᴇssᴀʀʏ?
There are some questions we ask ourselves that feels like a rhetorical question. Question such as the topic of this discussion, are subjected to opinionated perspective to come about a rational answer because frankly, there is no right or wrong answer for it.
A lot has changed in the world, things are no longer the way it used to be. In the old days, population was power. The higher the number of people in a geographical zone, the greater their human resources. Which can be considered as military strength and greater work Force. Such was the glory of the days of abundance but in this era, the natural gift of procreation, is starting to feel like a curse.
With every country struggling with scarcity of resources, which is weighing down every citizen, population has become something that needs to be managed. We have countries with high rate of poverty due to over population, children in the street with no one to cater for them. Parents struggling to put food on the table for their children, providing basic needs has become almost impossible for average citizens.
As if that is not bad enough, we now battle with all kinds of health challenges. Different kind of diseases eating everyone from within, separating us from our loved ones. We could wake up tomorrow and half of the population could be consumed by some unknown virus. Everything we eat has become some kind of poison to our body, it is like nature is working against us and earth is just looking for ways to spit out the living.
I would have said that is probably the worst that could happen, but it is not. As if health challenges is not bad enough, what about the rising spate of crimes, no one is safe anymore. The pattern at which we walk on the street these days, it is like a vigilante on duty, because humans are no longer safe around humans. Friends and families can no longer trust each other, trust as become a tool in the hands of the wicked.
Innocent people getting killed on the street; in their homes. Children and adults are getting kidnapped, violated and sold like properties. Some have even taken it as a business to harvest their fellow humans organs and trade it illegally. Everything now have a price, as long as you have enough funds, anyone can buy anything.
The weapons we create is slowly becoming a means of our extinction, a weapon fashioned against us. War is looming at every corner, like hell is desperate to break loose. Countries are battling each other like titans for power, domination and resources. Innocent people getting caught in the crossfire and getting blasted to pieces like rodent stepping on landmines.
Considering all that going on simultaneously, is it ethical to still wish to bring a child into this world? sincerely speaking I really don't know. Despite the ongoing hullabaloo, we still have to contend with society demands. I remember the first time I told my parents that marriage is a choice, the look on their face felt like I was denying them the opportunity to have grandchildren. It wasn't funny, infact the conversation quickly took a weird and emotional turn, I never tried to revisit that conversation ever again.
