What's for Today?

Nobody wants to end up feeling lost, useless, and alone. We decide who we become in the future. The future we have, depends on the choices we make today. So choose wisely.

Another day, another menu, another story to share. Join me as I walk you through my day. It’s nothing fancy, but it might give you viand and snack ideas. HEHE

I woke up feeling hungry because of what my Mama was cooking.

Lumpiang Shanghai or Spring Rolls

Guess what mama was cooking? The crispiest Lumpiang Shanghai, of course. So OA. Haha. I jumped up right away, but when I checked the table, only one piece was left. My brother already took the rest to school to sell. So I cooked another batch just for me and Papa. While it was frying, I made coffee too. After a while, breakfast was ready. But plot twist — I forgot this was supposed to be for me and Papa... and I ate everything 🤦 All we had left was beef loaf. Sorry, Pa. Haha

I went out for a walk after breakfast to help digest. The weather was gloomy again today.

The Malnourished Chili Peppers

I remembered our poor chili peppers in the backyard. No one was taking care of them, so they looked malnourished and were starting to die. I told my sister about it before, but she ignored it, so I decided to save them myself. I grabbed a knife, dug them up carefully with some soil still on the roots, and replanted them in an old sack where my alugbati used to be. It didn’t make it, but hopefully the chilies will. I really hope they like their new home.

Beside the chili pepper is my ginger plant. Just look how it's blooming. 😍

Lunchtime was coming, so I started thinking of what to cook. I decided on vegetable soup. After all, every day is Veggie Day. I asked Papa to get banana blossom from near our house, and I gathered saluyot, moringa, patani, and kulitis from the yard.

We had it with dried fish, or uga, and sautéed bitter gourd with eggs. Just a simple meal made with love. It was only the three of us at home — Mama, Papa, and me.

By afternoon I was bored and hungry. I also thought about my brothers — they’d definitely go looking for snacks when they came home. So I decided to make cassava ukoy. I checked the backyard and luckily there was still some. It was hard to pull out because it was growing next to a stone, so I asked Papa to help.

I harvested quite a lot, so I split it in half — half for dinner and half for snacks. For the viand, I cooked it with chili leaves and chicken knorr cubes. It tasted just like real chicken. For the cassava ukoy, I shredded the cassava with our DIY shredder, seasoned it with salt, and fried it. Good thing my little brother came home on time — the snacks were ready.

I’m here because I chose this life. It may not be my time yet, but I know it will come — sooner or later.

That's all for today. See you again on my next blog. Lovelots 😘
