Whenever we arrived at someone's house, they would immediately offer us a meal, a coffee, a drink, or some sweets. The point is, they always wanted to do something nice for you.

I remember the milkman leaving cartons of milk at your doorstep every morning. When you woke up, you'd find fresh, creamy milk and the newspaper waiting.

It's not like that anymore. Now, if you leave anything unattended, it's very likely to be stolen. And when you do find milk, it's not the same milk it used to be; now it's been through several industrial processes or has been watered down.

Creo que si hay una frase que ha influido negativamente a la sociedad de hoy en día es la de: sálvese quien pueda.

Recuerdo, cuando era niña, e incluso, cuando joven, que las personas eran mucho más solidarias, compartidoras, muchísimo menos egoístas. Siempre que llegábamos a una casa, enseguida te convidaban a una comida, a un café, una bebida o a algún dulce. El asunto es que siempre querían tener un detalle contigo.

Recuerdo que los pomos de leche eran dejados por el lechero en la puerta de tu casa todas las mañanas. Cuando te levantabas, ya tenías la leche fresca, cremosa y el periódico en tu puerta.
Ya no es así. Ahora si dejas algo, cualquier cosa al descuido, lo más posible es que te la roben. ya la leche, cuando la encuentras, no es la misma leche de antaño, ahora viene con varios procesos industriales o una buena dosis de agua.
Ahora la ley que impera es la del yo. Lo único que importa es que yo resuelva lo que necesito, independientemente de quien o quiénes sean perjudicados en el camino. No importa si son niños, ancianos o mujeres. Lo único que importa es que yo tengo que resolver mi problema.

Ahora, en esta sociedad del sálvese quien pueda, en sus múltiples niveles, cada día es más difícil encontrar a personas de bien. Cada vez es más difícil explicarles a nuestros hijos que, independientemente del mal que hacen otros, ellos deben hacer el bien. Ellos no logran captar la esencia de poner la otra mejilla, ya que solo ven malas acciones a su alrededor.
Por eso, hoy en día es tan extraño y maravilloso encontrarse personas de bien, haciendo buenas acciones. Son un oasis de aire fresco en esta selva.
