Ramadan Day 2: Do good by others

Today is day 2 of Ramadan and I hope to use this to write about the need to do good by each other.

“Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.”
_{(Qur’an, 5:32)}

There has been so much information out there and organisations who's activities seeks to paint Islam as a religion of hate and bloody.
Unfortunately the media only seems to play alongside this making it easy for the very few bad people to continuously convince more people turning them into extremist who only cause chaos.

It is the duty of the majority of Muslims like myself to live by example and clear the name of the religion. This article however is not about this but the verse taken is only to help me make a point.

Even though the verse is about an extreme word 'kill', but it is far beyond that. It means that when you disrespect, abuse or harm one innocent person in anyway , it is as though you were doing this to the whole of humanity.

Fasting is not meant to teach one how to remain hungry or thirsty for 12 hours. It is meant to help us ponder and understand the purpose of humility and understanding. It is meant to help us understand what others are faced with on daily bases so our hearts may calm and our souls sober. Let's use this period to remind ourselves to love more and empathize with others.

The Bible tells us in Mathew 7:12,

"Do onto others what you want to be done onto you"

	This verse summarizes the entity of how we should treat others and if we could go with this even to an extent of 50%, the world will be a better place.
