Three years. That’s all it’s been.
Three years ago, if you wanted to compose music, you needed years of training, expensive software, and hours of meticulous work. If you wanted to write code, you’d spend days debugging, searching through documentation, wrestling with syntax. If you wanted to create art, animate characters, analyze complex data, write a novel—each of these demanded specialized expertise, significant time, and often, considerable money.
Now? You hum an idea and music materializes. You describe what you need and code writes itself. You sketch a thought and images bloom into existence.
We’re standing at one of those rare inflection points in human history—the kind that only comes along every few centuries. The printing press. Electricity. The internet. And now this: the democratization of creation itself.
What strikes me most isn’t just the capability—it’s the compression of time.
Tasks that took months now take minutes. Skills that required decades of mastery are becoming accessible to anyone with curiosity and a conversation. We’re not just working faster; we’re thinking differently. The bottleneck isn’t technical execution anymore—it’s imagination. The question isn’t “can this be done?” but “what should we make?”
And here’s what moves me: we’re watching human potential unlock in real-time.
The teenager in rural Indonesia who can now build a startup without a computer science degree. The artist who can finally animate the story that’s lived in their mind for years. The researcher who can process datasets that would have taken a lifetime. The grandmother who can write her memoirs with a patient collaborator who never tires. The child who can learn about black holes or ancient Rome through dynamic conversation rather than static text.
The Awkward Early Days
We’re in the awkward, electric early days.
Yes, the technology is imperfect. Yes, there are profound questions we’re grappling with—about authenticity, about labor, about truth, about what it means to create. These aren’t trivial concerns. They’re the growing pains of something genuinely transformative.
But consider: We’re generating music, yes—but more than that, we’re exploring sounds that human hands never could have played. We’re writing code, yes—but we’re also making software development accessible to people who were told they “weren’t math people.” We’re creating images, yes—but we’re also giving voice to visions that would have remained forever locked inside minds without artistic training.
And this is just the beginning.
In three years, we’ve gone from “this is impossible” to “this is everyday.” What happens in the next three? The next ten? We’re going to look back at 2025 the way we now look at 2010—almost quaint in its limitations.
We’re teaching sand to think. We’re having conversations with mathematics. We’re building tools that augment human consciousness itself.
The writer’s block dissolves. The language barrier crumbles. The technical obstacle yields. Not because the challenges are less real, but because we’re learning to think with these new minds we’ve built—these strange, powerful, sometimes frustrating collaborators that never sleep, never judge, and endlessly adapt to how we work.
What moves me most is this: for all of human history, there was a chasm between imagination and execution. Between “I wish I could” and “I can.” That chasm is narrowing.
Not gone—never gone. The human element remains irreplaceable. The judgment, the taste, the why behind the what. AI doesn’t have soul or purpose or desire. It doesn’t wake up burning to tell a story or solve a problem or right a wrong.
But it’s becoming the most extraordinary amplifier of human intention that our species has ever created.
A Historic Moment
So yes—let’s pause. Let’s really see this moment. We’re living through something our grandchildren will read about in history books, the way we read about the Renaissance or the Industrial Revolution.
We’re not just witnesses. We’re participants in the rewiring of human capability itself.
And we’re only at the very beginning.
