A "failed" investment

When I think about how many days I tried to explain to a friend of mine that the additional investment in a cell phone with a lot of memory is unprofitable, it's amazing.

It is OK that a mobile phone has a larger capacity, especially for those who use the mobile phone for work, for recording and taking photos in high resolution, but it is not wise to have a mobile phone, so that its memory is a place to store important information.

That friend of mine also had in mind a device with a memory capacity of 2TB, however, since the iPhone 17 Pro Max is available in that capacity, which was just too expensive, he decided to buy the iPhone 17 Pro, with 1TB of memory.

The price, a trifle!
€2054.

A new iPhone 17 Pro with 256GB of memory costs €1,400 in stores, and since the quality of the photo is not of crucial importance to him, I suggested a regular iPhone 17 with 256GB for €1,000.
Although that is a lot of money and I'm sure that you can buy a better quality phone for €1000.
Although I'm not an iPhone user, so I have no right to judge 🙂
But come on, he wanted this orange model, so it had to be the 17 Pro.
But it didn't have to be 1TB, because unlike 600€, for 750GB, you could buy at least 3 external HDDs of 2TB each, and so for the same amount, you could provide yourself with a really large space for storing photos, video clips...

But he decided on the €2054 model.
OK, if he didn't have money, he wouldn't have bought himself such an expensive phone, and since he was using his old iPhone 13Pro until a month ago, I agreed with him that it's time for him to treat himself to a new phone, with which he will be provided for the next 3, 4 years.

But no.
He was unlucky.

We were at his house by the sea, and the phone, without a protective mask, went to put it in the pocket of his shorts after the conversation, when we went down the stone steps to the beach.
And that's when his investment in technology went bust.
He had money to buy a €2,054 mobile phone, but he didn't have time to check if his pocket was intact.
And you guessed it... He wasn't.
A pierced pocket does not go well with keeping an expensive phone in it.

As he let the smooth phone slide into his pocket, he just watched as the phone slid down his thigh, over his knee, past his foot and further down, past the steps to the stone platform on the beach.
He screamed "No!" but it didn't help.

Miraculously, the phone didn't fall on the screen and while we were going down to the platform, we thought that maybe it wasn't destroyed and that its screen remained intact?

A new approach to making the case, compared to the 15Pro and 16 Pro when it was made of titanium, or in the 12Pro and 13Pro models, when surgical steel was used, and the use of aluminum, supposedly due to better heat dissipation from the processor, led to the fact that his 17Pro was made of much softer material...
He dropped the 13Pro a few times, had the screen replaced once, but none of the drops caused the phone to warp like it did with this phone.
The glass of the screen didn't break, but due to the bending of the whole housing, the screen broke, and the back side, the application above the battery, broke as well.

Honestly, the only luck is that the phone didn't fall into the sea, because then it wouldn't have been possible to take it to the service center, if there was any chance of it being saved, as well as the fact that his iCloud account is set to download a set of backups every night, so that when he starts the account on his old 13Pro, all the photos he took in the last two days will be available to him...

I was very sorry that he broke such an expensive and beautiful phone, but I think it will be a lesson for him for the next time, when he is thinking about investments... That he should not buy such expensive devices, that he should listen to a more experienced friend who gives him a good suggestion, that he should put a protective mask on the phone, whatever it is, and certainly that before putting small things in his pockets, he should check that they are intact.
