Gazelle Family Photos Part 3

A few months ago I was inspired by darth-azraelHive account@darth-azrael to bid on old photo slides and scan them for posterity. If you like this kind of thing I highly recommend his posts. The first set I won at auction was several boxes of slides taken by Miss Kathryn Gazelle of Washington DC. They range in date from 1948ish to 1963. I'm going to post them roughly by date and subject and give some background on what I have learned about the Gazelle family.

Today I present a few of the images that aren't actually slides. Included in the lot were two film canisters, one containing an unused roll of film and one containing a roll of uncut negatives.

I debated cutting negatives that hadn't been touched in 75 years but in the end I decided it's best that they are preserved and shared with the world and not kept hidden away forever.

The earliest dates on the slide boxes are 1948. The negatives seem to me to be a few years before.

The Gazelle children were the children of a West Virginia coal miner living in Tucker County. I believe they were living in Coketon and it looked like this:

The matriarch of the family was Mary Gazelle née Darut who was born in Poland in 1890.

I think she has a kind yet stern face. Coal country is no joke.

Now we get to the sisters. None of the photos are labeled with names. Anna was the oldest, Kathryn was the middle, and Flexie the youngest of the girls.

I am terrible at judging ages.

To me this looks like the oldest, so Anna:

But side by side it's hard to tell. Any thoughts?

I have reached out to the diocese that they last attended to see if someone there could identify who is who but I didn't hear back. Maybe I should try again...
