“Just an estimate,” the doctor said, glancing at the chart. Six months, perhaps less. The old man nodded, planted a mango sapling, and went home. Twenty years later, he sat beneath its shade, eating fruit with grandchildren who knew nothing of estimates. The old man had a lived a difficult life. He took care of others. He was easily triggered by the people around him. This new estimate made him realize a lot of things. He was finally watching life as it should be seen. He cared less about people and more about himself. He was happier and the negative feelings weren’t really there to torment him anymore.
