Poğaça en Venezuela

Pogaça in_20250810_205544_0000.jpg

Hello hivefood@hivefood community, I hope you are all well. Today I want to share my experience with this recipe for Poğaça, a type of bread of uncertain origin but very common in Eastern Europe.

I found this recipe here on Hive thanks to a beautiful girl from Turkey, bemier@bemier. You can see her post here: open in new tab .

When I saw this recipe, I thought it looked interesting, so I decided to make it with a few variations, with the sole intention of giving it my personal touch and using what I had available. So here are the ingredients:

  1. 4 cups self-rising flour (170g each)
  2. One red bell pepper
  3. Two green bell peppers or one green chili pepper
  4. Half a cup of chopped stuffed olives
  5. 180 g cheddar cheese
  6. 250 g Greek yogurt
  7. 240 g melted margarine
  8. One egg

For baking:

  1. One egg
  2. Butter to taste

Preparation:

Pour the yogurt, margarine, and egg into a large bowl, mix, and then add the flour. Knead the dough; it's very easy and fun to do, and the dough has an incredibly soft and fluffy texture.

Once the dough is ready, add the rest of the ingredients, the peppers chopped into small cubes (brunoise), and the grated cheddar cheese. Mix and set aside.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and form small balls. For the first batch, I made 85-gram balls and placed them side by side. For the second batch, I made smaller balls of approximately 40 grams.

Once the balls are formed, brush them with beaten egg and bake for 50 minutes at approximately 180°C.

I baked the second batch at approximately 350°C for 25 minutes. I think this second baking method is better for this recipe, as they are crispy on the outside, although I think 20 minutes is enough. I am giving approximate temperatures because my oven does not have a degree indicator.

When I took the poğaças out of the oven, I brushed them with butter. I must say that this recipe was totally worth it. They are delicious, and the aroma of the pepper is irresistible. They are light and crispy on the outside.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you feel inspired to try this recipe. Best wishes and blessings.

Saludos y bendiciones.
