Bitcoin moshpit: A survival guide

Hello, my name is

DOMINIC REEVES

I’m a CryptoCurrency enthusiast*

I’ve been in and around the CryptoCurrency space since 2011/12

During that time, I’ve seen many brilliant insights and innovations emerge. And amid the innovations, there are learning experiences**

Such experiences of course, lead us towards best practices

And I’ve collected a few best practices in the world of CryptoCurrencies, which have their equivalent in another one of my passions

There isn’t anything else on earth, quite as fun as flailing about like a lunatic, with a few thousand sweaty idiots

And some best practices can make a big difference to your overall gig experience

Best practices: Gig survival kit

You need:

  • A t-shirt
  • A hoodie
  • Jeans
  • A belt
  • Boots

You DO NOT need:

  • Jewellery
  • Your wallet
  • Your mobile
  • Your keys

JEWELLERY

YOUR WALLET

People aren’t fussy about who’s pockets they put their hands in

YOUR MOBILE

A mobile is unnecessary at a metal gig. You cannot hear them, and they cannot hear you

Typos in the moshpit, outweigh the advantages of free messaging apps

YOUR KEYS

Having your ribs and pelvis crushed does not get better with a pocket full of keys. Leave them at home

1. KEY

In your boot. It won’t fall out when you stage dive

Also

2. BOOTS

They can’t be pulled off

3. TRAVEL CARD

Usually safe in your front pocket unless someone yanks your pants down

(remember the belt. Its’ important)

With just these things you can do what you came to do

GET DOWN

And that, is exactly what new CryptoCurrency Users are striving for

They just want to

GET DOWN

or hold a bunch of Ethereum Classic until it reaches parity with Ethereum, and…

MOON

So, the pioneering folk in the CryptoCurrency community have taken the bumps and scrapes, losses and gains along the way, to arrive at a simple set of best practices for Users to:

1. Stay safe

Remember...boots and belts? Don’t leave your coins on exchanges! Use a cold-storage wallet (Ledger Nano S, Trezor etc)

2. Have a great time

Remember...leave your keys at home? Store keys and passwords safely. Use 2FA

3. Look forward to doing it again

Don't let an idiot ruin your fun. Stay out of the trollbox - do your research, make an investment where you’re comfortable, play the long game

This gives you a simple survival kit, for most challenges of the Crypto Moshpit

If you’d like to chat about CryptoCurrencies in general, or get into the pit with me

* Bitcoin, Decred, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic. It’s important that the advances made by CryptoCurrency variants are supported with energy and commitment to continually improve the subject as a whole. It’s too early to expend energy in choosing (and arguing over) which horse to back, when what really matters is that the race is run at all. Yes that probably means in time, I’ll be writing articles that also mention Dash, Factom, Lisk, Maidsafe, Monero, NEM, NXT, Steem, Storj and more

** Mt Gox. Exchange hacks. The DAO
