A Win-Win Partnership: Tutor & Student

Hi there. In this short education post, I talk about the partnership between a tutor and student. This motivation is based on my side math tutoring.

Student Seeks Help, Tutor Helps Out & Gets Paid

Tutoring services are always in demand. Bad teachers exist and sometimes school courses get tough all of a sudden. Ambitious students and those who want to survive do seek tutors to help them with course work, homework and test preparations. Tutors are there to assist the students and be compensated for it with cash. Tutoring sessions between the student(s) and tutor can be done in person. Remote and online tutoring is preferable if distance is an issue.

The Students Should Put In The Work Too

One thing I would like to note is that the student should put in the work. Tutoring sessions should not necessarily be replacements for lessons. They could be. It is very difficult for any tutor to get a failing student all the way up to A grade student. The jump is too big as either the student needs fix the attitude, fix foundational skills and put in the hours in homework and test prep.

I did have a case recently where the young student client did not want to do homework one the one topic. Yes, there was a fair bit of algebra and calculations but this topic would be tested. He did not work on it and lost something like 5 to 8% on the test. The laziness was punished in this case. Since our sessions are not that frequent and are one hour each, there was only so much to cover. Tutors may not have the time to cover everything needed.

On the bright side, when the student does succeed thanks to the tutor, the student is happy. The tutor should also be happy as the assistance and guidance played a major role in the student success.
