Flying Gurnard
This strikingly odd looking creature was found along the beach shore at West End at about 5 feet deep. It measured just shy of 5 inches in length and maybe 1.5 inches at its widest point along its body.
The wings... THE WINGS!! Now that's something you don't see everyday. This fish uses the wing like fins on its sides to seem bigger than they actually are and they scare off prey! Unfortunately I could't get a shot of the bottom of this creature, it also WALKS! That's right, this fish walks on 6 little feet that are on its bottoms and only use their tail when scared and need to flee!
