Making a Face Mask

Some weeks ago, I learnt people were penalised for non-usage of facemask, a penalty that included fines and being locked up for hours. One of the safety measures put in place to safeguard people is the use of face mask. No agency or place of work around here will give one the time of the day without a shield on, so I made one, using Ankara fabric.

Revamping old clothes to new designs seem to work fine for me, I kinda enjoy doing it, made a facemask using my old top, let's say the colorful pattern got me.

Tools:

• Piece of fabric
• Marker
• Any circular object of about 26 cm
• Scissors
• Elastic band
• Safety pin
• And a sewing machine (can be hand-stitched)

Method:
Place the circular object on the fabric and trace out

Fold the piece into two, and then fold again to make a cone

From the place unfold, highlight 4cm and 8cm and use the circular object to form a curve

Cut out two pieces. Place the two right sides on each other and sew the sides.

Attach the stitched ends to each other and sew round leaving 3 inches to turn it out.

Once turned out, give it a press on the ironing board to straighten out the edges.
Topstitch on two sides of the mask to close up the leftover inch.

Fold the sides with half an inch, the opening is to allow the elastic band fit in.
Attach the elastic band and it's all ready for use.
