What did i eat at the biggest Fair in South East Asia (Jakarta Fair)?

Hello, friends especially foodies!

One of special event that only held once a year in my city is Jakarta Fair or we called it Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ). Jakarta Fair itself is the biggest and longest fair in South East Asia and this time it would be held from June 19th until July 13th, not even a month. At this fair, we could see many interesting stalls and it sold many kind of things, but of course what interested me much was the food stalls there. But wait a minute, let me tell you about my experience there... then to my culinary experience too, of course. Well, now let me start it.

Came there by one of my favorite way to transport, by using transjakarta (TJ) bus, we arrived at almost 10 am, the perfect time cause they open on weekend at 10 am. When we entered their front gate, we could see some cars entered the area too.

alt

Inside, there were many people before us, well it was too many. Many of them were on the left area to buy the ticket, while the others on the right side, waiting for the entry gate to open.

alt

Didn't want to wait for buying the ticket, i chose to buy it online so i wouldn't be queue up second time..
The price of one ticket was 60K IDR, i bought two tickets and the extra charge was added to the online tickets, but i thought it was worth it than spending our time to queue up for the tickets. After the quick booking and payment online, we could skip the left queue up.

Here how my ticket looked

alt

Right away we were on our line to enter. Lucky for us it already opened at that time.

alt

Like usually, we got the coupon voucher there.

alt

Mostly would give you discount for the purchasement in some stalls. Only one free coffee that you don't want to miss, and this was a local brand, gajah (means elephant), a unique name for coffee, isn't it?

When we first entered the area, there were many rides there. And behind you could see many buildings, mostly were local fashion brands.

alt

Finally, i could find the gate which lead me to the food section of the fair. What a relief!

alt

Well, actually sold many food and drink there, but we weren't hungry that time. But i told you that there was a dessert that interested me much so i would come back later!

When we entered another area of the fair, i saw the giant bag of chitato snack (this person's left back pack) which made me in love, gonna looked further about it of course.

alt

Not a long time, i felt a bit hungry so we used one of the coupon to buy the burger there. Well, the burger was so so, cause it didn't taste it as tasty as i had imagined.

alt

But now you already had an answer about what i ate there, first that i had was burger. What's next?

I found a stall that sold bakpia, traditional puff cake that originally came from Yogyakarta - a special area of Central Java. Don't want to miss a chance, i bought a box of it to take home!

alt

Next i found my world in the school & office supplies, i found many cute stationery stuffs there then picked some.

alt

alt

After picked up some of the stationery, my boyfriend took a photo of me with the butter bear big picture.

alt

Happy to get some of the cute stuffs, then we continued our journey there.

Look around

When we got starving, we went to the food court area where i found my favorite meatball restaurant. The different was in the fair, we would get the bowl too. Yeah, we could take home the bowl with the lid too. Look at the line up of the customers in the stall.

alt

After had paid i waited for them to prepare my bowl of meatball.

alt

Here was the bowl of the meatball, when it was closed.

alt

And ta da, here was the meatballs and vermicelli noodle.

alt

Before i told you about the taste and flavour of it, let's check what my boyfriend ordered at the same time. I told him once i ever had balinese mixed rice that tasted so good that's why when i told him, right away he bought it for us.

alt

Now i would like to tell you the taste and flavour of each main dish we had. First..

MEATBALL

alt

Well, the portion was too small. Because a bowl of the meatball only contained two mushroom rough round balls and two smooth flat balls. But of course the taste of it was irresistibly tasty. They had savory flavour with the soup that was tasty too. They also completed it with vermicelli noodle. Really, the only problem was just the portion and the one that helped it was the bowl. Haha.

BALI SPICY MIXED RICE

alt

The mixed rice contained rice with

  • stirred tempeh which tasted dominantly sweet with a bit savory and spicy flavour.
  • crispy potato stick which had crispy texture, tasted sweet and savory.
  • traditionally cooked beef which had sweet, savory and a bit spicy flavour. I thought they cooked it with the coconut milk so it became tasty.
  • shredded chicken which had savory and a bit spicy flavour
Well, the taste of the mixed rice was just quite tasty but it didn't as tasty as the one i had had with mommy in other place before.

Anyway the dining area there was quite full so it was hard for us to find a table that day.

alt

Next, we were hunting for snack bags there, but unfortunately i still couldn't find the one i had seen in the morning, big chitato, that made me fell in love at the first sight.

Still looked around then i found an interesting place to have dessert. The place i had seen in the morning..

alt

the one that would give us free enamel mug (both the ice cream and mug made me interested)

The dessert place named "bearly baker". Some of customers had been there before us.

alt

Then it was my turn to choose what menu to have as the dessert on that hot sunny day. Not many menu, the place only had cheese cream, brownies mug (free mug), brownies mix, brownies dip and brownies cheesecake.

Ordered and paid, this was the dessert i tried.

MATCHA BROWNIES MUG

alt

The mug contained matcha ice cream with the crumble of cookies on the top which tasted so good. It tasted so matcha, with sweet and a bit bitter. And below, under the ice cream, there were some brownies, it tasted chocolaty sweet. I loved it and so did my boyfriend.

The place was quite popular even a well known foodie youtuber was there too. And we took a photo together.

alt

No place to sit i was standing while enjoying the ice cream.

alt

After we were strolling around, felt a bit tired but i was curious with the corn that sold there. The name of the stall was mozarella cheese corn.

alt

After i had paid, the seller prepared my order. He cooked the corn with cheese.

alt

And last he put the most favorite topping on the top, grated cheese and also condensed sweet milk.

alt

MOZARELLA CHEESE CORN

alt

alt

alt

The taste of it was cheesy corn. I mean it had natural flavour of sweet corn blended with the mozarella cheese and grated cheese. Savory cheesy but it also had sweet flavour from the corn itself and also from the condensed milk. For this corn, the portion was quite large and it was tasty too.

Anyway we sat on the floor while having the corn.. all around was people!

alt

alt

With lots of snacks we bought on my left and right hand, we still looked around, went back to the stall which sold chitato large backpack. After a long story drama, we finally were lucky enough to be able to buy the chitato large backpack. Here how it looked!

alt

alt

Could you guess the price?

The Jakarta Fair was getting more crowded in the afternoon, for us it was the time to go home, because we already there since morning.

alt

alt

Look at me, happy and smiling, waiting for the TJ bus to come home.

alt

I welcome you to visit Jakarta Fair. And the booth i came to buy food were:

  • AFUNG
  • NASI PEDAS KAMPUNG BALI
  • BEARLY BAKER
  • JAGUNG CHEESE MOZZARELLA
