Hace miles de años, los seres humanos descubrieron el fuego e inventaron herramientas para encenderlo. During the twentieth century, a style of naturalistic theater was consolidated in Europe, which deals with life and the daily problems of people. The actors seek to behave like ordinary people and the stage and costumes must be realistic. In opposition, other styles of modern theater emerged, including styles that rescue and give new life to old popular traditions. However, the naturalist style prevailed in television and film.
¿THEATER OR REALITY?
The German playwright Bertolt Brecht believed in a theater that induced the audience to feel part of the action that takes place on stage. I wanted people to feel happy or sad together with the characters or actors, and that everyone could do something in real life to face the problems that were represented on stage.
IN THE KITCHEN
In the 1950s, some authors returned to write realistic works about ordinary people who sought to show the sordid aspects of everyday life. In Great Britain they were called kitchen works, because they reproduced small apartments where the characters did the everyday like the work of the house.
THEATER FOR ALL
The Italian director Eugenio Barba and his group, the Odin Teatret, have traveled all over the world to learn from other cultures, exchange skills and encourage the participation of people in theater expression. His influence has been decisive in the rebirth of popular South American theater.
TELE THEATER
Television programs that deal with everyday life are called soap operas. They usually show relationships between members of a family or a group of friends, appealing to sentimentality. Other programs have more action, like the exciting car chases.
As a curious fact, in the 1960s marked the definitive establishment of group theater, where the works are not an author, but collective creation. It is the most widespread form of theater today./center>
