Some Quick Thoughts on Refugees and Jesus

What I think we can say for sure about Jesus related to the matter is this: he never forced anyone into a situation that they didn't willingly put themselves in. And given that anything government does is via force, it's difficult to understand a Christian advocating for government forcing this upon its citizens. At the same time, I also don't think its reasonable for government to force Christians away from practicing compassion as they see fit. Truthfully, for me this issue boils down to yet another reason I can't see a Christian moral argument in favor of government's existence and can only see arguments against it. So in the end, for me what I would see Jesus doing is this:

1. Not advocating for government action in the refugee process at all because it is enacted via force that we have no example of Jesus using or condoning, in fact he advocated against it.
2. Doing whatever he knew was right, no matter what the consequences. (For Christians we have to rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit because we don't have the knowledge of Jesus. But I will note that this may even mean smuggling people around as we have seen during slavery and the underground railroad or the holocaust.)
3. Accepting whatever the worldly consequences may be for what is heavenly right. He was willing to die for living a life of truth and righteousness, and so should we.
