Arsenal Thrashed by Rennes
Arsenal yesterday was thrashed 3-1 by Rennes in their first leg of the knockout (round of 16) of the Europa league. It was a surprise loss for the Gunner who appeared to have everything under control after taking the lead first. Alex Iwobi gave the Gunners the lead early enough in the game. Arsenal was dealt a blow as assist provider Sokratis Papastathopoulos was shown a second yellow of the match before the half time.
A free-kick resulted from Sokratis situation granting Rennes the opportunity to level up through a well played kick from Benjamin Bourigeaud. Things got worse for Arsenal as their defender Nacho Monreal scored his own post granting the host a 2-1 lead. Sarr made it three for the host in the 88th minutes through a good diving heading to give his side a good chance at qualifying to the next round.
