Whittier Narrows Dam
This is a bit of my local non-urban area within the urban space: Whittier Narrows Dam. When it's not flooded, which is most of the time, it's a small overgrown forest with horse and bicycle trails ringing it.
The dam is located where Pico Rivera meets Montebello.
It burned up several years ago in the Lincoln Fire, but it's mostly come back.
Most of these are panoramas.
This was weird - I'd never seen a shopping cart so mangled before.
Maybe it was carried there by the recent rains. The dam was established for flood control, and the Rio Hondo River does rise, but the dam itself is rarely ever filled. The last time I saw it full was in the 1970s, though I'm sure it's been filled since then.
A burnt stump from the fires.
