Would the World Have Developed This Way?

We've seen technological developments over time. We're currently in a time when there are more and more of these developments. Constantly, we keep seeing new developments in technology from different parts of the world. These are the very things that move our world today, and which make work and life easier and better. More are coming as time passes, and we'll always be grateful for these developments we experience.

The question is, would the world have experienced such developments and advancements if everything was okay and everyone was content with how things were? Was greed, conflict and the like necessary to power us into these advancements? Was all of that needed to have these developments? Would innovations have advanced this well and fast in the absence of these factors and events which have led us to the technology we have today?

We have to recognise that several innovations and technological advancements came in relation to the aforementioned, spurring humans to find solutions to fix problems, inadvertently making life better through the developments. I think this raises a viable enough question if indeed the technological evolution and growth we have today could have been a thing or not. But, can't there be growth even within peace, ease and contentment?

They say that when you want to grow you have to go outside your comfort zone. This has proven true. On the topic, I don't think developments and advancements wouldn't have happened if people were contented and okay with life. Maybe there's a need to understand contentment better. Basically, this means being happy with what one has. It doesn't cancel out the need to want more. Contentment and advancement can perhaps still go together.

Being contented doesn't mean not seeking growth and something greater. The need for contentment is to avoid unhealthy competition and to be grateful, even as one aspires for more. By curiosity and a will to make something more out of life, people could find opinions heading towards development. It won't be rapid and fast I guess, but something can still come out when we feel there can be more. Perhaps, a slowly developed but better world.

I don't think war, greed, conflict and the like are the only necessary means to have achieved these developments. Well, it's hard to argue because it makes up the main reason why we have several innovations and developments we have today. But would it have been possible otherwise? Human intellect, intuition and drive to get better and solve problems are what make the difference and impact. Something would have pushed us to that state.

The world is a broken and fallen one, and that's what we have. We can see that even the technological developments have now become harmful to us, to whom it still benefits. This is the case with the nature of humans; there's greed, power tussles, and destructive tendencies that have made us abuse these things and made them harmful to us. Well, we have all these technological developments and advancements, it's good to see they are benefiting us.
