Lionfish fishing
Lionfish can cause damage, directly or inderectly, to coral reef, seagrasses and mangroves, due to their high rate of reproduction and growth, their voracious feeding capacity and lack of predators.
In Chichirivichi De La Costa, Caracas/Venezuela, marine divers have to fish these animals because it’s affecting the other species found in the Caribbean Sea.
Marwan El Jordi (international diver) said : "It’s a problem that affects the Caribbean Sea and we are running out of fish and are destroying corals so we are forced to fish them."
For this the diving school Scubatec,located in this beautiful place has created Fishing Tournaments of Lionfish, in which it’s possible to end the overpopulation of this marine species. But besides this they also manage to have fun and win
prizes.
Stalin Martínez fishing in the area said: " We appreciate this collaboration of divers because the Lionfish is killing all other fish and leaving us without recources."
Even though this continues to be a problem, divers and some fishermen are providing all the necessary support to end this problem.
