Mercury
A little bit of information on Mercury or should I say Buddha, the prince of the planetary hierarchy. I tend to think of Mercury as the child of the zodiac, but there are many significations related to Mercury. In this short write up, I will list a few unknowns on Mercury and how the child of the Zodiac indicates certain nuances. Firstly, in Latin Mercury is called, Mercuries, derived from Latin mercari "to trade" or merces "wages". So, it's no surprise words like Merchant, Merchandise, Commerce, and Commercials are all abbreviations that relate back to Mercury. Another great insight is that Mercury rules over Gemini the natural sign of America the word 'Mer' an acronym for Mercury being very strong in A'mer'ica. Those familiar with the Greek God Hermes will know its a Greek depiction for Mercury. The Greek Messenger of the God's and so be it a great name for a delivery specialist too!. So what's Mercury holding in his hand is called a caduceus, which is typically a wand with two serpents twined round it. The symbolism holds much relevance to Mercuries first lunar asterism, known as Ashlesha, which means the entwined. Finally, the similarity between Mercury☿ and Venus's ♀ symbol with the only distinguishing feature between the two, being the crescent moon on top of Mercuries crown. So what does this mean? Well, it means that Mercury contains all the attributes of Venus the difference being that Mercury is related to the mind. This enables Mercury to use his intellect and it is this crescent or arc of the moon that distinguishes the two. Those who have read the Vedic fables know that Mercury was born from Soma the Moon.
