My DIY Car Ignition Fix [ENG/SPA]

I am having trouble with the vehicle’s ignition again. About a month ago, I installed a switch to handle the ignition after turning the key, but it failed because it couldn’t handle the high current load. While trying to figure out what I could use as a replacement that would actually hold up, I thought about a part I had replaced a while back.

Tengo nuevamente problemas con el encendido del vehículo. Tras haber colocado hace más de un mes un interruptor para encender luego de colocar la llave en posición, tal interruptor se dañó debido a la alta corriente que debe soportar. Pensando que podría utilizar para sustituirlo y que soporte la corriente, se me ocurrió utilizar un repuesto que cambie hace tiempo.

You can easily find my previous post where I showed how to replace the brake pedal switch. That part is responsible for turning on the brake lights and signaling the ECU whether or not the pedal is being pressed. It turns out I was able to salvage the old one after taking it apart, sanding down the internal contacts, securing them back in place, and using some glue to seal it back up nice and tight.

Es fácil encontrar la publicación anterior donde muestro el cambio del interruptor del pedal de freno, que sirve para encender las luces traseras de freno y a su vez, mandar una señal a la ECU de que el pedal es pisado o no. Resulta que el que quite para cambiar por el nuevo, pude recuperarlo luego de destaparlo, lijar los platinos internos, asegurarlos y armarlo con pegamento para dejarlo firme.

This part actually works perfectly as a push-button. Plus, it’s designed to handle high current and constant, repetitive use, which makes it a great candidate for an ignition button. So, I checked to see if the wire terminals I had already installed would fit into it. Once I confirmed they did, the only thing left to do was figure out how to secure it into the hole under the dashboard.

Este repuesto sirve perfectamente como un pulsador, además es resistente a las altas corrientes y pulsado constante debido al trabajo que debe ser sometido, por eso es bueno para ser usado como pulsador de encendido. Así que aproveche para ver primero si los terminales de los cables que ya había instalado calzaban en el. Una vez determinado que si sirven, ahora solo tocaba saber cómo fijarlo en el orificio debajo del tablero.

Since the hole was originally cut for the previous switch and is a bit too big for this new one, I had to find a washer to hold it in place. After sliding it in from behind the dashboard, I tightened it down with a washer and nut on the outside, leaving it nice and secure. It might not be the most aesthetic solution, but it is definitely functional. It’s perfect for getting the car started until I can eventually buy a proper ignition system and replace the whole thing.

Cómo el orificio se hizo originalmente para el switch, es más grande para el nuevo, así que me tocó encontrar una arandela para poder sujetarlo. Fue así como luego de calzado por la parte interna del tablero, puse la arandela y la tuerca por fuera, dejándolo firme y bien sujetado. No es lo más estético pero si loas funcional, es perfecto para el trabajo de encendido hasta que finalmente pueda comprar todo el encendido nuevo y hacer el cambio completo.
