One of the hallmarks of the city of Coimbra, Portugal, is undoubtedly its university. Now 736 years old, it is divided into three campuses. Campus 1 is the oldest area, where the Law and Humanities programs are still located. Today, it is mostly visited by tourists. Campus 2 houses Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and new technologies. Campus 3 is dedicated to biomedical sciences; this is where Medicine and Nursing are taught.

I found this piece of street art on Campus 1, in an area behind the old Physics building that is hardly visible to tourists. Today it is inhabited by homeless people; filth reigns and the smell of urine is nauseating. But it was worth the sacrifice because I consider it a very interesting piece of graffiti.

A simple technique (spray paint, direct line) that blends tagging and conceptual drawing, inspired by contemporary graphic language and punk culture. A graffiti piece closely linked to ideas of free expression and counterculture.

Since the space was set aside to take a front-facing photo showing the entire graffiti piece, and the wire fences in the foreground were also distracting, I asked ChatGPT to recreate the complete image without the visual clutter of the wire fences. The result surprised me. What about you?

Um dos ex-libris da cidade de Coimbra, Portugal, é sem dúvida a sua universidade. Atualmente com 736 anos é dividida em três Polos. O Polo 1, a zona mais antiga onde ainda permanecem os cursos de Direito e Letras. Sendo que hoje é mais presenciada por turistas. O Polo 2 alberga a Engenharia Mecânica, Engenharia Informática e novas tecnologias. O Polo 3 é das ciências bio médicas, é aqui que se leciona Medicina e Enfermagem.

Encontrei esta peça de arte de rua no Polo 1, numa zona traseira à antiga faculdade de Física e pouco visível aos turistas. Hoje é habitada por sem abrigos, a sujidade impera e o cheiro a urina é nauseabundo. Mas valeu a pena o sacrifício pois considero um graffiti bem interessante.

Uma técnica simples (spray, linha direta) que mistura tag e desenho conceptual, inspirada na linguagem gráfica contemporânea e cultura punk. Um graffiti muito ligado a ideias de expressão livre e contra-cultura.

Como o espaço era apartado para fazer uma imagem de frente onde se visse a totalidade do graffiti, e as grades de arame em frente também incomodam, pedi ao ChatGPT para recriar a imagem completa e sem o ruído visual das grades de arame. O resultado surpreendeu-me. E a vocês?
