How to Store Tomatoes for a Year: A Budget-Friendly Kitchen Tip
How to Store Tomatoes for Long-Term Use
Hello friends, best wishes to all of you!
Tomatoes hold a special place in our kitchens. They are an essential ingredient in most dishes, enhancing the taste of our meals. Even if there are no vegetables at home, tomato chutney can add great flavor to any meal. Tomatoes also play an important role in salads, making them an indispensable part of our daily cooking.
However, there are times when tomato prices rise significantly, especially for around two months every year. This not only affects the taste of our food but also puts a strain on our budget. Currently, tomatoes are available at a very affordable price around 3 to 4 kg for just 20 rupees. Every year, when tomatoes are cheap, I make sure to store them in advance for future use.
Today, I want to share my simple and effective method of storing tomatoes so that you can enjoy their rich taste all year round without worrying about price hikes. If you face similar situations, I hope this method will be helpful for you too.
Step-by-Step Process:
Choose Fresh Tomatoes:
Select firm, ripe, and good quality tomatoes. Wash them thoroughly.
Soak in Salt Water:
Soak the tomatoes in salted water for about half an hour. This helps in removing any dirt or bacteria.
Second Wash:
After soaking, wash the tomatoes again with clean water and let them dry completely.
Slice the Tomatoes:
Cut the tomatoes into thin slices.
Sun Drying process
Arrange the slices in a large tray or plate in a single layer. Place them under direct sunlight for 5 days. Make sure to bring them inside every evening to protect them from moisture.
Store in Airtight Containers:
Once the slices are completely dry and crisp, store them in airtight containers. To maintain their freshness, place the container in sunlight for a day every couple of months.
How to Use Dried Tomatoes
Whenever you need tomatoes, soak the dried slices in warm water for a few minutes, and they are ready to use in curries, chutneys, or any other dish.
By following this method, you can enjoy the taste of tomatoes all year long without worrying about rising prices. This simple trick not only saves money but also ensures that your meals remain flavorful.
If you found this method helpful, please share your feedback.
Thank you so much for giving your valuable time!
