When the Corporate World Stops Making Sense

I have quietly reach moment where the realization that the corporate world I once believed in no longer feels the way I expected.

The meetings, the presentations, the strategic initiatives, the endless pursuit of quarterly goals it feels disconnected from reality. The language of purpose and values may sound inspiring, but the day-to-day experience I’m feeling is dominated by politics, bureaucracy, and priorities that don’t always align with what truly matters.

This realization has been years in the making and I finally have broken even with years of success in my career. I have built a solid resume, led teams, delivered results, and earned recognition. Yet somewhere along the way, I have had a difficult question ratting at me.

“Is this really what I want to spend the next chapter of my life doing?”

This question I know is accompanied by burnout which is not just physical exhaustion, but a deeper sense of emotional and professional fatigue. When people say they are done with the corporate world, they are often not rejecting work itself. They are rejecting an environment that has become misaligned with their values and that’s hard to reconcile.

The frustration for me comes from spending more time managing internal politics than solving meaningful problems. Being measured by metrics that don’t reflect real impact. Then there’s feeling pressured to perform enthusiasm for initiatives I don’t believe in.

Not to mention we created a culture of organizations prioritize short-term results over long-term value. It’s disgusting to see what bad leadership has done.

At my core I think I have lost connection to the work. Any one else feeling this way
