When the Mind Becomes a Cage – Living With Silent Mental Torture
Mental torture doesn’t always come from others—it often starts inside our own mind. Anxiety, overthinking, guilt, self-doubt… they build walls around you so slowly that one day you realize you’re stuck in a place you can’t explain to anyone. The hardest part is that you look fine. You smile. You function. But inside, you’re breaking. Every small decision feels overwhelming. Every silence feels loud. And every moment of peace feels like it’s about to be taken away.
Anxiety makes you question everything—your worth, your choices, even your right to rest. It tells you you’re not doing enough, not being enough. It rewrites your reality and convinces you that your worst fears are just around the corner. That kind of mental weight is exhausting. It’s like screaming underwater and no one hearing you.
I’ve learned that the mind can be both a prison and a path to healing. Talking about it, writing it out like this, is one of my ways of fighting back. Maybe you’ve been there too—maybe you are there right now. If so, just know you're not alone. There is no shame in struggling. And even on the days your mind feels like the enemy, you are still worthy of peace.
To anyone reading this who feels the same—
Please know that your feelings are valid. You are not weak for struggling. You are not broken. You're human, and you're doing your best. Healing takes time, and even on the days it feels impossible, you're still moving forward. Be gentle with yourself. You deserve peace, and you are not alone in this fight.
