Carpintero Jabado
It essentially inhabited the warm forests of Cuba, although it was originally also found in the south of the United States. These carpenters were distributed evenly throughout the Sierra Maestra of Cuba. In the past it was not a rare bird, although the total population probably never exceeded 8000 specimens.
The most frequent cause of death of the Jabao carpenter was vandalism. It was a good target to shoot for fun, and because they were easily identifiable and large enough not to miss.
Other authors think that one of the most important causes of hunting was food. The heads were also used as amulets.
