Fue concebido en 1969, durante una visita que hiciera Fidel Castro a la vecina presa "Ejército Rebelde", en aquel entonces en fase de terminación.[1]

Antes del triunfo de la revolución, en marzo de 1952, cuando Fidel conversó con los campesinos de la zona en casa de "La Gallega" (Josefa Yánez), aseguró que en esas tierras, se edificarían escuelas y otros proyectos.

Entonces Celia Sánchez se unió junto a un grupo de compañeros para materializar estas ideas. Luego de un fallido primer intento, se internaron en la maleza en una segunda travesía, para dar inicio al proyecto. Aunque las primeras obras comenzaron a funcionar desde 1971, no fue hasta el siguiente año que quedó fijada su inauguración. De esta forma Celia se convirtió en el alma de la creación de esta importante obra.

Construcción
A partir de los estudios preliminares del terreno, se concibió el parque con un carácter definido de bosque, sin aceras, ni construcciones urbanas y con la preeminencia del ambiente natural por encima de todo.[2] Se creó, especialmente para este fin, un sistema constructivo prefabricado de hormigón armado sobre la base de una sola pieza que serviría tanto para columnas como para paredes y cubiertas, que podría ser utilizado en todo tipo de construcción.

Otras premisas del proyecto fueron emplear el color blanco para todas las edificaciones y aprovechar en los diseños la plasticidad que brindaban las piedras que habían constituido los límites entre las fincas originales que integraban el territorio.

Áreas del Parque Lenin
El parque fue levantado en una zona agreste, sin flora propia en la que predominaba el marabú. Toda la vegetación que integra los bosques, así como la que complementa los espacios exteriores de las instalaciones, fueron transportada desde diversos lugares del país. Debido a la mala calidad del suelo de la zona, hubo que excavar alrededor de cuatro millones de metros cúbicos de tierra vegetal para crear un nuevo suelo que permitiera la siembra de los árboles, las arbustivas y el césped.

Construction
Based on preliminary studies of the terrain, the park was conceived with a defined forest character, without sidewalks or urban constructions and with the preeminence of the natural environment above all.[2] A prefabricated reinforced concrete construction system was created, especially for this purpose, based on a single piece that would serve both for columns and for walls and roofs, which could be used in all types of construction.

Other premises of the project were to use the color white for all the buildings and to take advantage in the designs of the plasticity provided by the stones that had constituted the limits between the original properties that made up the territory.

Lenin Park Areas
The park was built in a wild area, without its own flora, in which marabou predominated. All the vegetation that makes up the forests, as well as that that complements the outdoor spaces of the facilities, was transported from various places in the country. Due to the poor quality of the soil in the area, around four million cubic meters of topsoil had to be excavated to create new soil that would allow the planting of trees, shrubs and grass.
