Retro Game #35 Battle Circuit 1997 Game Play (Arcade)
Battle Circuit is a game released in 1997 for arcade machines by Capcom Co.The arcade cabinet Battle Circuit provided support for up to four players at a time, each of whom could assume the role of five possible characters.Players must progress through a series of levels consisting of horizontally scrolling screens filled with enemy characters that must be defeated using a combination of attacks and movement abilities used by each character. Each character is given a selection of these abilities, which can be expanded as the game progresses by purchasing special "upgrade disks" after completing each level with coins earned for defeating enemies. These techniques are often a combination of one of the two action buttons and the joystick, and can add additional variety to a character's arsenal. The player must attack enemies until their health (indicated by the bar below the player when an enemy is attacked) drops to zero, and thus is knocked out. If the player's health bar is depleted, he will also be knocked out and will have to consume one life to continue. If all the player's lives are depleted in this way, the game will end unless more credits are purchased.Pressing both action buttons on the ground executes a super move that sucks up lives on contact. But when two players execute their super moves at the same time, they will form a team attack for better crowd control. There are also special techniques called "Battle Download" that can be used by pressing both action buttons while jumping, resulting in the player and his allies (if present) gaining a specific attribute, the effect of which is unique to each character .For example, Cyber Blue can use his Battle Download "Power Up" to increase the damage dealt by attacks, while Yellow Iris' "Speed Up" increases attack speed. The character starts with a supply of two of these techniques to use per life and can get more from capsules scattered throughout the levels, up to a maximum of five.Inside destructible objects such as barrels and crates, various items can be found that can provide the player with extra health or add points to his total score. When a player's score reaches a certain value, he or she will be rewarded with an extra life, which will give him or her another chance to continue the game from where he or she was knocked out by an enemy.
