Countryside and Views

Today i visited Porlock Weir about 8 miles from Minehead this is a historic and picturesque hamlet in the Exmoor Natoinal Park.
This little harbour is now home to pleasure boats and a few fishing boats.The harbour dates back to the 1400 century and
Oysters and salmon fished or farmed there.There are still several stakes there marking the channel up to the harbour .I believe
they where also used on high tide to catch the salmon .Oysters are still caught or farmed at the Weir and are very popular with
the many tourists and local resturants.The beach around Porlock Weir and the bay is all shingle no sand and forms a ridge of stones. Stones are still cleared today from the channel to the harbour so the boats can come in and out .Three little cottages are in between the harbour and the shingle beach and acessed by a little walking bridge across the harbour.When the sea is in it is totally different so when the tide is right will do a nother blog
