If at first you don't succeed...

Try and try again?

...

A few months ago, we both got new Garmin watches. It was needed; his had died and mine was in its last legs.

We decided to get the same model of watch because it was reasonably cheap (for a Garmin) and it meant we only had to learn how to use one new model of watch, not two.

We also signed up for a free training plan through Garmin Connect.

Another new thing. Another thing we had to figure out.

I think I'm on week three of a pretty easy program. And I'm being given an almost identical drill workout at least twice a week.

But I still mucked it up this morning. Again.

In fact, I think this is the fourth (?) time that I've attempted this drill and each time I get a little bit closer to being able to follow its instructions. And I thought I'd nailed it this morning.

Until I realised I hadn't ๐Ÿคฆ

That's when I heard this quote in my head:

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. (Unknown)

My immediate next thought was:

"Well, that's all well and good but Albert Einstein told us, 'The definition of insanity if doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.'"

So, both things seem to be useful.

Just because I find the instructions confusing (partly because I'm new to following a training program off a tiny screen on wrist, and partly because they're generic for all Garmin watches and don't actually line up perfectly for our cheaper watches) doesn't mean I should give up.

I should, if I were to listen to the advice rattling around inside my head, "try and try again".

But I should also make sure I'm learning from each experience and, at the very least, not make the same exact mistake more than once.

At least I was a little bit closer to being compliant this morning.

And, most importantly, I got out the door for a run ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
