Ever seen braided grass or scribbles on a tree?

Yesterday I went for a walk in the bush near our house. I adore this chink of land and all the beautiful things it contains. There are oodles of animals, which I have often written about in other posts, but today I wanted to share about the part of nature that doesn't have legs...

From native grasses to shrubs, from ferns to plants not much bigger than me, all the way through to full-size, massive trees, I'm forever impressed and inspired by what I find in there.

Here in Australia, yesterday was a Wednesday but it could have been any random "spring" day - warm, sunny, the bush alive with sounds.

I passed this braided grass on one of the wide paths. Brad tells me it's been there a while, so when I saw it the other day I thought I'd better take a photo so I could share it with you!

And just a few hundred metres around the corner I took a photo of one of the hundreds (or thousands?!) of Scribbly Gums. They're a kind of Eucalyptus tree, growing tall and strong, attracting grubs that eat into their smooth bark and make "scribbles" as they eat. To me, it looks like a piece of art 😊

As our walk continued, I spotted this fern. I love the lush greenness of it as well as the patterns of the leaves and the shape these opposing giant leaves are making. 🌿

And the last piece of 'nature's art' that I spotted was a pile of brak that had stripped off one of these giant gums. It happens every year around this time - as soon as it gets proper hot, many of the gums shed a layer. And it looks... beautiful. 😍
