Week 08 One Question Response -- Dealing With Unjust Taxation

When thinking about Universal Basic Income, or UBI, my opinion on the matter is very conflicted. While I do strongly believe that all human beings should be able to live without fear of starvation or homelessness, I also believe that others should not be forced to be the ones providing for them. Many people across the United States have great difficulty finding food or other necessities for themselves and their families and a form of Universal Basic Income would greatly assist them in being able to provide for their needs. This being said the funding for this subsidized form of citizenship must come from somewhere and, oftentimes, this funding comes from higher rates of taxation forced upon those that are more financially sound and even those that are very wealthy. While this could be a successful solution, it would be an unjust force of action against the people who would be forced to pay a higher rate of money in order to benefit others. I find this to be against what I believe the government should be allowed to do. No reallocation of money or resources should be forced upon any party of individuals or corporations without the consent of the affected groups if the individuals or corporations in question have behaved within the restraints and restrictions of the law. Going against this would be a direct violation of every person’s rights to life, liberty, and property granted to them by our very own constitution. While the people who are struggling should not have to live under fear of death by starvation or harsh outdoor elements of nature, I believe that, instead of simply offering up money to them, programs should be instituted to help them get back on their feet or grant them better living conditions through options that do not require the usage of forced taxation in order to be sustained.
