COMPETING WITH TECHNOLOGY
John Henry part 2.
Yesterday, I told us the story of John Henry, how he competed with "steam powered hammer" and won only to lose his life.
It's happening in our society today, but unlike John Henry, we are even worse, we aren't taking responsibilities.
Should you behave like John Henry?
read this...
Many of us complain when innovation hit our firm...
The innovation may mean people would be laid off and we're afraid of the unknown...
"What if I'm part of the victims?" is the question that strikes our mind...
While the workers complain, some business owners compete with innovation(like John Henry) mainly because they're used to the old system or they've invested much in the old system.
Either you fall in this category as a worker or as a business owner, you're on the bad side.
The worker will most likely be laid off and the business owner will certainly worn out like John Henry.
Notice the use of "most likely" and "certainly" in my last statement.
The business owner will certainly be left behind and sent out of business by his competitors.
Don't be a victim.
In a world of "everyday innovation", you can't afford to be left behind.
It's your responsibility to step up your game.
Dr. Strive Masiyiwa told us a story sometimes ago.
He told us of his meeting with a taxi driver and how they discussed the technological evolution.
He concluded explaining that the mode of doing a work changes with time, yet, the same work is done.
For example, people no longer send letters using post office but the same message is sent(via email or social media).
Take your time to study and understand the innovation and use to the best of your advantage.
Technology should not be a curse but a blessing to you.
The only way to compete with technology is a better technology.
