Daily prompt - When love and work get over the edge

He was a young man in his mid thirties who was in love with a pretty lady who did not know how to cook but he loved her regardless.

His love was arrogantly fearsome but she stayed because she believed there is no perfect man anywhere".

With every verbal abuse, he will take her out for a meal or for shopping at the mall.
Yet still their relationship blossomed beautifully as long as she obeyed him without disagreeing.

His kind of love was controlling and obsessive with authority.

One day, he got fed up with eating outside. He decided to employ a professional chef to cook at home.
The girlfriend insisted on a male chef, he wanted a female chef. He said he was going to be the one pay for it.

She endured every whim and pain as long as the gifts, money and her desires were met.

She did not bother if his attitude was right or not. If the disrespect or violence was acceptable.
She lied to herself so as not to get over the edge with him "he is a man of authority".
The two strung together like a tossed die.

Until a female professional chef was hired, he stated his rules: I make the meal plans, you cook with less oil, salt and spices. No tasting, no takeouts, payment is weekly. You don't talk back when I'm talking. I restocked when you are out of supplies, so you don't steal them and no repetition of meals in a week. The chef nodded in agreement.

The days passed by quickly and the chef did her duties faithfully. Until one day, she was exhausted. She decided to rest after cooking and food portioning to store.

He got back home and asked her "why are you still here?"
You have breached the agreement and I'm docking your paycheck.

She couldn't not stand his excesses anymore and said I'm tired of being disrespected as if I am not human.
He said to her " get out of my house" .

She replied I'm tired of always hiding that I am sick of your attitude.
She slams the door and walks away sobbing I needed that job to support my family.

He was shocked because he expected her to kneel down and beg him at that instance and not to go over the edge.

His anger went down quickly and he said she cooks so well. The fiancee only stares dumbstruck...
She was protecting her own edge.

Over the edge is not always negative, It could be the beginning or the end of something he/she chooses over.
Gifts bought silence but not respect.
Dignity over drudgery.
Fear brought obedience but not loyalty and submission.
Authority means guidance without disrespect
