It's All Unfair

This past weekend was the St. James Court Art Fair, when more than 600 artists converge on a corner of Old Louisville to show and sell their creations. The artists come from all over, but very few of them call Louisville home.

Doesn't seems very fair to the locals does it? Back in the 90s, some local artists organized their own alternative to the art fair, and named it the Unfair.

Rather fitting, as it is quite _un_like St. James. Staged a block from St. James in the back of the Mag Bar, it has a totally different vibe.

Think like what antimatter is to matter, except less explosive.

There's just a sense of community here that you don't get a block to the west.

One artist had had their car stolen on Saturday night and was making prints on site Sunday, with another printmaker stepping in to help.

I always try to spend some time at the Unfair but this year I was covering it for one of the local online outlets and really got to hang out and take it all in.

Even met several of local artists I'd been following on social media.

Some artwork wasn't for sale.

There was plenty more that was. All in all, for something named the Unfair, it was a pretty fair time.
