Wandering out from the deep, star-lit woods and right into a sun-drenched adventure

I wanted to capture that true galavanting vibe with this piece of scratch art I made just now. That sense of fun and curiosity when you step off the path carrying a little basket and a big sense of awe, ready to collect whatever treasures the journey brings.

I played with the contrast between the dense forest complete with hidden eyes, stars, and dragonflies and the open trail ahead. The warm color gradient transitions from a golden olive into these rich, glowing sunset oranges and pinks, giving the whole scene a cozy, storybook vibe

Here is how I made it

Breaking out of my comfort zone for this one I don’t usually begin with a rough sketch, but I wanted to be intentional and strategic with the detail placement instead of being completely spontaneous. Featured here is my original character wearing their headgear, and I'm really happy with how the planning paid off.

To keep my momentum going, I then started scraping away the colors, a process that beautifully revealed this cute little character climbing up a steep hill. While the basket on its left is now fully formed and defined, I have to admit I'm still not entirely sure what that object in its right hand is going to turn out to be

Before I could overthink what that mystery object was, I quickly pivoted and started adding secondary details, like the textured bush down in the lower left corner. I'm hoping that building out the surrounding environment will help me better define the overall scene and figure out exactly what's happening. Hopefully...

The plants look good with their blooms I felt happy and further added more to the areas that need details. I thought a bright sun on the upper right would occupy that boring space. I added a dragonfly to keep my character company.

I still don't know what that thing my character holds at this point maybe it is a mushroom or light source. I went full on with the details to fill the night sky. More stars and dust and dragonfly and those ubiquitous rockets. You can tell it is done at this point just need some cleaning up and scraping. To avoid it looking too much I scrape some of the little details like some stars, plants and smaller lines.

Here is the final draft. I wanted to scrape some more details but I am afraid that I will overdo it and regret in the end. So I stopped from here and adjusted the colors. I noticed the composition is looking dull and grey so I adjusted the vibrancy and warmth of the colors. A filter and light do not do the trick at this point

Sometimes the best part of the artistic process is letting the drawing surprise you as you go. I'm really enjoying watching this little world come together layer by layer. Stay tuned to see how this adventure turns out, and let me know what you think of the progress so far
