A Lesson Life Taught Me Today
Something happened today that made me sit down and reflect deeply about life, friendship, and personal growth. After thinking about it carefully, I have decided to keep no friends around me for now — both male and female.
I woke up this morning and started my day with my usual routine: exercise and some early morning chores. After that, I made a to-do list for the day:
- Read articles about the stock market and cryptocurrency
- Register for driving school lessons
- Order an electric guitar
- Buy a new pair of gym shoes
Thankfully, I was able to achieve almost everything on the list except registering for the driving classes.
The last thing left was getting the gym shoes. The original price was ₦25,000, but after negotiating with the seller, he agreed to sell it for ₦20,000 as his final price.
The problem was that my budget for the shoes was ₦15,000 because I only had ₦20,000 left in my account. My plan was simple: buy the shoes for ₦15,000 and survive on the remaining ₦5,000 until some people owing me would pay back my money.
It was honestly a difficult decision because I really needed the shoes, but spending my last ₦20,000 would leave me completely broke.
So, I reached out to a few friends and asked if anyone could lend me ₦5,000 until Sunday. Sadly, none of them could help.
What hurt me the most is that these are people I genuinely care about. I have helped them financially many times without expecting anything in return, yet when I needed help, nobody showed up for me.
That moment taught me a hard lesson.
Today made me realize that sometimes people stay around you because of what they gain from you, not because they truly value you.
Because of this, I made a few decisions:
- I have decided to cut certain people off and stop constantly giving people money
- I want to stay away from distractions and focus more on building my career and future
- I want to focus on self-growth and move differently in life
- Sometimes, you truly have to depend on yourself
- I have deactivated all my social media accounts
The good part is that one of my debtors later sent me part of the money he owes me. So tomorrow evening, I’ll head back to the market, complete the payment, and finally get my gym shoes. By Saturday, I’ll be back in the gym.
Right now, this is my season of building myself — physically, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically.
