Pickering - North Yorkshire

This is a collection of shots taken in the town of Pickering on the boarder of the North Yorkshire Moors.

The North Yorkshire Moors steam train connects this town to the nearby coastal town of Whitby.The journey by steam train takes around 2 hours passing through the beautiful Moors countryside.

While wandering around the town I had a look in an interesting little shop called the hidden market. This place had some world fully unique items like the Viking clock and the bar stools made out of old beer barrels. If I ever come back here I am buying at least one of those beer barrel stools, or maybe I can have a look online for empty beer barrels and make my own stools?

Pickering is also home to a castle which was converted from a timber and earth Motte and Bailey style castle to a stone building starting in around 1180ad.

The castle became a favourite spot of the kings of the middle ages to be used as a place for gathering hunting parties to head out into the North Yorkshire moors which were rich in all types of game such as pheasant, deer and wild boar.

I have alot more pictures of the castle but I will save them for a second post and will talk more about the castles history there.
