Three Tune Tuesday 65 - Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem Tribute
Hi Everyone
This week for @ablaze s Three Tune Tuesday I am paying tribute to the memory of The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem
The Clancys , Tom ,Paddy and Liam were all from Tipperary ,Tommy Makem was from Belfast.
They became famous after appearing on the Ed Sullivan show in 1961 .The sang and made popular old Irish folk songs.
This week I would like to take a shot at singing 3 tunes I was inspired to learn after hearing thier versions.
This first song is from that Ed Sullivan show in 1961 , It is called "The Rising Of The Moon" and tells the tale of a battle fought during The Irish Rebellion of 1798.
The Captain who led the Irish rebels against the British was called Theobald Wolfe Tone which I think
may well be the greatest name I have ever heard.
This second song is one I really enjoyed playing for guys this week. Its called "Tell me Ma When I go Home"
This last song is from The Clancys and Tommy Makem Reunion which was record in 1984 in the Grand City Hall in New York. Before this concert the 4 of them hadn't played a concert together since 1969.
The song is called "The Rare Old Mountain Dew" its about making illegal booze in The Mountains :).
