The Brook...
Last week, some selfish, stupid humans dumped chemicals and oil in a tributary to the brook that runs through the park. The water surface was rainbow patterned with an oily sheen, and it looked awful.
There are fish in the river, and an abundance of wildlife that thrive along it's path. Herons and kingfishers can be spotted from the banks. It's a magical place, and it was mindlessly vandalised by some absolute *******'s (insert an appropriate word here).
The river is not just a place that I love to visit and photograph in the park. It also runs along the back of our allotment plot. I see it every day, and it's part of my life. This assault on it felt very personal.
How can some people can treat nature with such blatant disregard?
The environment agency advised dog walkers to keep their dogs out. But wildlife can't be safeguarded in this way. It's not clear how much long lasting harm has been caused by this event. Hopefully, any damage can be cleared up, and the brook can return to good health.
Anyway, rant over. Here are some photos that I took the week before the oil dumping took place, on a very beautiful, still and frosty morning.
